What to eat in Quebec City

Besides falling in love with the place during my short stay in Quebec City, I also had delicious food for almost every single meal. This is a list of what to eat in Quebec City and the restaurants I highly recommend.

Crepes

There are several places where you can get your crepes, savory and sweet. I found a delicious Crêperie (a.k.a. a restaurant that makes Crepes). It was called Casse-Crepe Breton and they even offer Buckwheat crepes for people with gluten sensitivity.
They have many crepe flavor suggestions but you can also make your own crepe from a wide variety of options. I had a smoked ham, swiss cheese and bacon and it was absolutely delicious.

Lobster

I had the most delicious lobster of my life. I ate by myself a full lobster deliciously prepared in an elegant restaurant. The restaurant is called The Continental and they offer 3 different lobster dishes, I ordered the “Lobster Thermidor” where they cook the meat with butter, brandy, Dijon mustard and gruyere cheese, then they add it back to the shell and bake it. It was A-MA-ZING!!

I also had a lobster cake at Le Sam in the Chateau Frontenac. It was a lobster cake with black pepper mayo and veggies. It was absolutely delicious! The place is beautiful and the service incredible. I highly recommend this restaurant, besides it gets you inside the hotel if you are not staying there.

Poutine

In case you don’t know what poutine is, it is a dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. There are of course many variations where you can add bacon, pepperoni, chili con carne, smoked meat and even popcorn chicken.
It is from the Quebec province so it is a must to try if you go to Quebec.

Pork Loin

If you do find yourself at Le Sam and you are not in the mood for Lobster then I highly recommend the Pork Loin. It is served on mashed potatoes with a variety of root vegetables, rosemary and maple gravy. Every bite was incredible.

Full Breakfast

I had the most delicious brunch at Le Lapin Sauté. I ordered a brunch plate that was: 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, braised ham, rabbit rillettes, cheese, a crepe (which was amazing) and maple cream, with an option to cook the eggs in maple syrup. It was fantastic. They have a great selection of dishes and even a larger brunch platter, which is a great option for sharing. Then you can taste a little bit of all the deliciousness they have to offer.

Mary’s Popcorn

I am not the biggest fan of popcorn, I like it at the movies and I do love Chicago style popcorn but it is really not a food I crave often… that was until someone walked by me with a bag of Mary’s Popcorn. That smell led me straight to their little shop and as I got closer to the store the smell got more and more intoxicating. I just had to go inside, from the outside you can watch them making various types of popcorn through the window, but it is that delicious smell that beckons you inside.
As you walk in, all your senses awaken, and you start wondering which flavor you will order. There are several: original salt and butter, classic caramel, maple syrup pecan, sea salt caramel almond, white cheddar, chocolate, cheddar cheese, Chicago style, and Quebec style.

My favorite has always been Chicago style popcorn because it’s savory and sweet, however, I always find myself eating two cheddar popcorn to one caramel, otherwise it gets too sweet for me. Then enters the Quebec style: Cheddar Cheese, White Cheddar and not your classic Caramel but a Maple Caramel which is not as sweet as regular caramel, and it has the maple taste… oh so heavenly. We got the biggest bag they had, and the next day, we went back for the biggest tin they have.
