What to watch after Bridgerton

Are you one of the many people obsessed with Bridgerton? Everyone is talking about it.
Bridgerton is a combination of the show Gossip Girl and a Jane Austen novel; it’s a show full of romance and drama.

I love period dramas, I love the costumes, the culture and the idea of having a glimpse into past decades.

So, if you, like me, are thinking of what to watch after Bridgerton and fill that craving, I have some recommendations:

Pride and Prejudice

If you haven’t seen the classic BBC series with Colin Firth, I’m sure you’ve at least heard of the romance between Elizabeth Bennet and the famous Mr. Darcy. It also happens during the Regency era, like Bridgerton.

This show is set in the early 1900’s in a big country estate. It is about the lives of an aristocratic family and the domestic servants. Drama, romance, and social hierarchy.

If you are a fan of Downton Abbey, Gran Hotel is a similar version where you get to see the lives of the owners of the hotel and the lives of the hotel workers who live there. There is forbidden love, drama, and lots of mystery.

Emma

Another adaptation from Jane Austen and also set during the Regency era in England. It is full of characters dealing with drama and love. Many Jane Austen fans prefer this over Pride and Prejudice. It is a beautiful adaptation.

Mr. Selfridge

This drama, set in the early 1900’s, is about the life of Harry Selfridge and the opening and run of the famous department store Selfridge & Co. in London. You fall in love with his store, his vision and everyone in the store proud of working in one of the best stores in London. It’s a wonderful story of the man who coined the phrase, “the customer is always right.”

Velvet

Velvet is a Spanish drama set in the 50s, with a forbidden love between a seamstress and a man set to inherit the fashion empire where the show happens. There is love, drama, and fashion.

The Great is a satirical, comedic drama based on the somewhat historically accurate story about the rise of Catherine the Great.

Austenland

If you are a big fan of Jane Austen, you will enjoy this romantic comedy. Jane, the protagonist, is obsessed with Mr. Darcy and decides to go to “Austenland”… yes a place where you can immerse yourself in the Regency era and sleep, talk and eat like Elizabeth Bennet.
